This is the itinerary we give people who have one week, a car, and no wish to spend all of it behind the wheel. Total driving is about 900 km.
Day 1 — Arrive, Marrakesh
Collect the car at Menara, drive ten minutes to Gueliz or park at your riad gate. Do not drive again today. Jemaa el-Fnaa at dusk.
Day 2 — Ourika valley (70 km round trip)
An easy half day. Setti Fatma for the waterfalls, lunch by the river. Back in the city by late afternoon.
Day 3 — Over the Tizi n Tichka to Ait Ben Haddou (190 km, 3.5 hours)
Leave before 10:00. The pass is the best driving road in Morocco. Stay the night at Ait Ben Haddou and see the ksar at sunrise before the coaches arrive.
Day 4 — Ouarzazate and the Draa valley as far as Agdz (130 km)
The film studios if that interests you, then the road over the Tizi n Tinififft. Agdz is where the palm groves start.
Day 5 — Back north to Ouirgane (280 km, 5 hours)
The long day. Break it at Taliouine for the saffron. Ouirgane in the foothills is a good soft landing.
Day 6 — Agafay desert (40 km)
Stony desert twenty minutes from Marrakesh. Camp for the night, or go for dinner and come back.
Day 7 — Return
Drop the car at Menara or ask us to collect from your riad.
The right car
Anything with ground clearance. The Duster is the value pick, the Tucson the comfortable one, the Evoque if you want the passes to be memorable for the right reasons.
