We started renting electric cars in 2023 and the honest answer has changed twice since then. As of this year, here is where things actually stand.
Where it works well
The corridor from Tangier through Rabat and Casablanca to Marrakesh is now genuinely easy. Superchargers, plus a growing set of fast chargers at motorway service areas and shopping centres. On this route an EV is cheaper and quieter than a diesel and you will never think about range.
Where it works with planning
Essaouira, Agadir and the road to Ifrane all have chargers, but fewer of them, and one being out of service changes your day. Arrive with more buffer than you think you need.
Where it does not work
South and east of Ouarzazate — Zagora, Merzouga, the Draa valley — the network effectively stops. Do not attempt these routes in an electric car. Take a diesel.
What we include
Both our electric cars come with a type-2 cable, a domestic cable, and a printed map of every charger we have personally verified in the last month. The Tesla also comes with a Supercharger account, so charging on the main corridor costs you nothing at all.
The overnight trick
Most riads and hotels will let you plug into a normal socket overnight for a small fee or for nothing. Twelve hours on a domestic socket adds around 100 km, which covers a day of city driving. Ask when you check in.
